December appointment update...

Darby's weight gain is 1/2 a pound from last month, and only 6.5lb total from week 11 to now.  No real changes or updates so far, baby's heartbeat was about 150bpm and the movement was good (she kicked the doctor).

We're skipping the short glucose test and headed straight to the 3-hour "call it an early birthday present" test.  For those of you that don't know what it is, it goes something like this:

  • Don't eat for 8-12 hours (which is difficult to do for people in Darby's "condition").
  • Come in to the hospital / clinic to get your blood taken.
  • Drink a very large glass of coke syrup.
  • Sit for 3 hours quietly.
  • Have more blood taken
  • Compare results.

Now, I've never had this test done, so I'm just going on the descriptions I've gotten.  From what I understand, this is usually the second test done.  The first is just like that, only it's an hour wait instead of 3.  But, since Darby's numbers were a little wonky with Cora, they're skipping the first test and going straight to the second test.

Since this is being done 3 days before Christmas, the doc said that he'd try to call her when the results were in, but if they were "ok" he'd probably just wait till our next appointment.  Something about being the only OB on call through Christmas...  :)

Might be more updates later this month.  Might not.  Next appt is Wednesday the 13th of January at 3:30.

Baby updates.

Over Thanksgiving, Darby "popped."  No, not that kind.  She went from pregnant to *PREGNANT*.  Bonus is I'm also able to feel some of the little one's kicks.

We're still working on names for the little squirt.

Next doctors appointment is Monday the 14th.  So we should have some more details.

Halfway there...

20 weeks down, 20 weeks to go...

Thursday, November 19, 2009

I now *officially* live, in an estrogen ocean.

Right. So, we had our "official" ultrasound yesterday.

It's officially a girl. Yup, I'm having another daughter.

Now, we're still working on names. More on that later. So, I've edited the "Baby guesses" bit over there to the left... looks like a *lot* of you need to re-guess. Eric wanted to know what the buy-in was with 1/2 going to winner and 1/2 going towards baby things. Does that count as gambling? :)

Week 20 update

Had the checkup with the doctor today. Baby's heartbeat is around 150 bpm. Darby's still not gaining a lot of weight, which makes her happy.

Darby's felt some kicking and movement, but it's all still very internal.

We've got an appt for the ultrasound on Wednesday afternoon.

Next appt is December 14th.

Updates and thoughts as they hit us...

Names...

Pondering names.

When Darby (we) was (were) pregnant with Cora, we had a reasonable easy time deciding on names.  Those names were Cora Mae and Liam Robert.  Since we didn't know if the little genestealer was Cora or Liam there was no issues.

When she (we) got pregnant this time around, Darby thought about using the name Liam Robert as a boy, and coming up with a girls name.  I vetoed that choice on the theory that "it doesn't feel right."  And it's not because our friends Corey and Mer's son's name is Liam Ramon (born Monday, October 12th)...  it just didn't feel like the right name.

We've got a girls name picked out, but are still working on the boys name.  When we have both, we will share.  As for getting the ultrasound pictures to determine the sex of this genestealer....  we're still discussing that.

Second Appt- 14wks 6 days

So yesterday I had the second appt. Things are going just fine. It was a quick one that was a weight check and listening to the heart beat. Sounds good and the Dr said the rate was at about 160/min.

I have to get both flu shots and Cora does as well.

I am tracking my BP and blood sugar numbers and showing them at each appt. This is so he can see a over all picture instead of just a reading here and there at appts.

My last thyroid test was just fine so no med changes there. I am still tossing my cookies though...

Trent did miss it but its ok. Its was a very quick one but it was hard to get a bp reading while trying to hold Cora on the table with me!

Today begins week 15....

Ok, I admit it - I'm an insensitive jerk...

Ok, so maybe not.  But I did miss the appointment today.

I know, I know, I know.  Completely my fault.
  • I cannot blame work (today sucked ).
  • I cannot blame technology (both places that had it on my calendar didn't make noises to remind me)
  • I can only blame myself.
So, I'll let Darby chime in with any salient details I may have missed while being a complete @$$ and missing the appointment.   What I do know is that Tuesday, October 20th is the first day of Week 15... and the baby's heartbeat is about 160 bpm.

Cora's gotten the idea that there's "a baby in mommies tummy".

Weighing in...

Isn't it supposed to be the machine that goes "ping'?

So a bit more info... I get medication, much like last time, to help with the vomiting. It has been increasing and its intense enough that I sometimes feel like I have pulled muscles when I am done. So now I have some stuff that will help when I really need it.

I am also monitoring my blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Instead of doing the 1 hour glucose test and then the 3 hour if I don't pass the first, I am just going the 3 hour one. That will tell us if we need to follow the same plan as last time.

Nice thing about this Dr office is we don't have to travel to visit the ultrasound machine. They have one in the office.

I have lost a couple of pounds in the last week but nothing serious. I am going to try to do with this one what I did with Cora and gain the minimum amount of weight.

First round of pictures!

Today was the first appointment with the doctor. After the initial exam, there was some question as to the cycle length, and date of conception, etc... so they wheeled in the little machine that goes "bing" (anyone?) and did length comparisons, spit out some pictures for the doc and then spit out pictures for us.

The due date is now April 13th, 2010.

He (the doctor) had to be a little patient with the little one - it's a swimmer. :)

Next doctors visit is October 19th. I'm sure they'll be posts between now and then.

Cute story...

I've mentioned that the "morning sickness" has been bad, right? Well - Darby's done reasonably well of holding it together - just getting the nausea, not actually puking. There have been days where that's not true, but for the most part it is.

This is a story from one of the days when it wasn't true... Cora, helpful little sprite that she is has issues on the days Darby pukes. Which is understandable... it can't be easy to watch. This is a small snippet of chat from one of those days:

Darby: I just threw up so hard I feel like I damaged by throat!
me:
did Cora let you get through the puke session? :)
Darby: She handed me a tissue.... it was kinda cute.

First trimester morning sickness...

Morning sickness, afternoon sickness, evening sickness, nighttime sickness...

I won't lie to you, it's bad this time. Not as bad as with Cora - but that was also later in the pregnancy... you know, after the point where everyone knows and she could talk about it. As of now, the puking hasn't kicked in, but the nausea is bad - which makes eating difficult - which makes the nausea worse... (May the circle, be unbroken...)

This weekend should be interesting. We're headed down to Ashland for a friends wedding, passing through Portland for the night on the way down and Eugene on the way back up - let's see how observant the mothers are, shall we? :)

(Mom's - if you're reading this now and you didn't figured it out, don't feel bad... we are working *very* hard not to let anything show...)

6 weeks, 4 days...

At least, according to the great mathematicians at the doctors office. :) Puts the current due date at April 7th - and we all know how accurate those are.

Darby went in this morning for the official, doctor's office "pee on the stick" test. First appointment with the nurse is a month from now, and then the doc a few days after that.

Of course, by the time you all read this, those appointments will have passed, and there will be other things filling the space... sigh, oh well. :)

Happy Birthday to me....

This weekend Darby, Cora, and I went down to Ashland with my mom, niece, and a friend of the family. We've been trying for the second pregnancy since her miscarriage in January - so she's got this iPhone cycle app. On the way down to Ashland, she was doing the "it's like day 40... I wonder if...?" I responded that we'd get a test while in Ashland and she can try it.

Saturday, the 8th of August we re-tested.

And, in case that video doesn't work for you...

Looking like April at this point, like early. We'll keep you posted as things change.
